Maybe the story was too good to be true. The local kid comes home to pull his favorite childhood team out of the gutter. Gaudreau doesn’t make the Flyers cup contenders next year, but the combination of him and Tortorella at least makes them interesting. We are over Gritty; this franchise needs something positive to happen in the worst way. Chuck Fletcher is on the hot seat, so there has to be some plan here, and if he fails to execute and push the Flyers in a positive direction, the paper bags will be out. Look at the bright side with Malkin returning to the Penguins; there is no way Giroux ends up in Pittsburgh.
South Jersey’s Johnny Gaudreau turned down Calgary’s offer and will hit free agency today
Two league sources who I reached out to regarding Johnny Gaudreau both believe the Devils are the front-runners here. One specifically said he is "pretty sure" Gaudreau doesn't end up with Flyers.
As of midnight tonight, teams are allowed to go 10% over the salary cap temporarily. Flyers currently have 11.7m to work with. There are no moves that need to be made to afford Gaudreau at this time.
